I've been camping for a bit so there haven't been any posts. Also just haven't felt like writing any. There has also been lots going on taking my attention elsewhere. So here's a short one.
Uninvited is a point-n-click NES game released back in 1991. A version of it for the Macintosh was released a few years earlier in 1986 but the sound I am posting, and the version I am most familiar with is the NES version. It's a part of the MacVenture games ICOM Simulations made, the most famous of which being Shadowgate.
The game has you play as an unnamed character who, after getting stranded ventures into an abandoned house to rescue his sister. Throughout the game you uncover the plot of what happened in this abandoned house and learn a lot about its mostly dead inhabitants. Tl;dr explore the haunted house.
Gameplay is a simple point and click game, you have a screen which displays where you currently are plus a UI of your inventory and possible things to do in the room (hit stuff, move, pick up, etc).
I have fond memories of the game as I learned about the game around the time there was a lot of change in my life. It holds a special place in my heart. I've tried some of the other MacVenture games like Shadowgate but none really captured my enjoyment as much as Uninvited did.
The games soundtrack is composed by Hiroyuki Masuno. Masuno is a Japanese composer and programmer who, according to Giant Bomb is the CTO of Arc System Works. He did most of his composing in the late 80s, early 90s with the NES generation before moving on to other things in the industry. Guy is an excellent composer. Personally, I love the main mansion theme (so catchy) and the cave theme. The cave theme just has the perfect ominous-ness in the game but also a sense of wonder to it. It's like Tarm Ruins in Oracle of Seasons. I get a strange nostalgia from it.
Below is a link to a properly tagged version with cover art and metadata. I used the existing rip on Zophar's Domain. The downloads come in circa 120kbps files, each an adequate length for casual listening. It's NES music, having it at a high kbps really doesn't do much...don't quote me on that though. The download on Zophar also includes the SFX however I am not including it in this version.
Also, I think we may have hit the one year anniversary or at least are extremely close to it. Because of the irregular posting schedule I have I won't be doing the special until post 52.
