Between last week's Big Lez post and Deathly Lands post a few weeks back I am still in the mood for posting more unusual soundtracks. This soundtrack is for a podcast/sketch comedy special available on YouTube.
So a little bit of background. The CronaCast is a comedy sketch/podcast hosted by The Minute Hour and features contributions from the writers and artists of the zine, The Mighty Lighthouse. For those that don’t know who The Minute Hour is, it is a comedy and occasionally musical project with bizarre dialogues between chracters and scenarios. He has also collaborated with several animatiors. As one youtube comment says "It's like a window into a world where everyone in it has schizophrenia”. One of my favourite ‘dialogues’ is “The Dogs That Are My Friends”. Very weird and unique stuff. Around the start of the pandemic he released CronaCast 1, a 4 hour podcast/show thing. Then in October of last year he released another episode. The show features a combination of audience call-ins, giveaways, sketches, music and skits. It's insanely varied in what it offers. Only two episodes are out and don't expect more. The amount of prep that goes into these are insane but 1 and 2 are masterpieces in longform video.
The Minute Hour takes a very unique approach to making fun of the pandemic ranging from people believing that the cure to the virus is fire, people angry they don't have the virus and creating weapons to fend off the covid hordes. It takes away from the comedy of it, so I won't explain more. Either way, I watched it in a bunch of sessions and each part was awesome. The people that came together to make this have excellent chemistry. The tech work and seamless transitions between segments was outstanding.
The posts focus is on the soundtrack for the show. The complete list of musicians present on the release are Jammho, Icrs, Yerg, Lober, Greyscale Peacock, Augggh, Odin_Odang_Obie, The Gamer, The Minute Hour, Spaghetti Squash, Grawk, The Mulkmen, North Anatolian Fault and Actually Literally Satan.
The music is mostly electronic sans some singer/songwriter and more folk oriented tracks. The vast majority of this I would describe as either Wave (Icrs's tracks) or IDM (Jammho's tracks). But there is still a lot of variation. It would be a good idea to do a full genre tagging for this because of the variety.
Some of the tracks I enjoyed the most were the ethereal and bumping "CronaHold" by Jammho and Lober & The Minute Hour's "Am I Gonna Get It". Such a catchy song. The icey and wave banger "Shitty Minor 3" by Icrs is also quite good. I enjoyed Jammho's songs the most and will definitely be looking into what he does next.
