So...I started the last post writing; sorry I haven't posted in a while. Well, after I made that post life got hectic. I originally planned to do posts every Tuesday night, but then I was too busy. Then I wanted to try every Monday night and again, too busy. Now I am going to try Sunday night, but I have some free time now so let's get this one out of the way. Expect...maybe...another post on Sunday. We'll see.
Now, let's get to the post. I was originally going to share a NDS soundtrack but I had an inkling to do this one instead. This is the complete soundtrack for the game YUMP2 (Yanked Up Mario Party 2).

YUMP2 is the second game in the YUMP series and a sort of unofficial sequel to the JUMP games. It came out earlier this year in July. This game was developed by SMWCentral user and hack moderator, Lazy and the JUMP Team. The JUMP team consisting of 27 incredibly talented programmers, designers and musicians. These people have pushed the SMW engine to its absolute limits going so far as to implement native hi-resolution mode, implement an achievement system, implement 3D models into this SNES game and more. I will get to other things they added later.

I've glossed over it but this is a romhack for the SNES game, Super Mario World. But it's evolved so much past SMW that it can barely be called a romhack at this point. I will just refer to it as a standalone game. Hell, I refer to most complete romhacks and overhauls as separate games. At this point, SMW is an engine, not a game anymore. But let's get back on track.

There are two things YUMP2 does very well. It pushes the boundaries of Mario levels and its really memey. With level names like "proud to stan my kings big huge meat bume #bigsports" and "Mario uses the toilet to escape prison" it seems like this game is just a joke and the levels are probably nothing to write home about. Nothing could be farther from the truth. These levels are incredibly technically advanced. They do things that I never thought possible with SMW. There are levels that implement the ability to draw, levels that allow you to climb on air, and more. There are levels that take glitches from SMW and turn them into full-fledged level mechanics. There are so much insane things in this game that I hesitate to reveal anymore. Just go play it for yourself or watch a LP.

One I guess downside to this game is that it's extremely hard. I've only played a bit with my sister because she was interested but the neither of us were good enough to beat it. I consider myself a good Mario player but to do kaizo level hacks I need a lot more patience and time both of which I didn't really have. Even with savestate abuse it's still difficult. If I ever were to give YUMP2 a real run it would be after I do the other games in the 'series'. My favourite level that I beat was "the burn". I never got to it in my run but had I did I would have loved 'The Switch of Many Achievements". "YELLOW SWITCH PALACE" and "Super Mario Warudo" are also highlights. "so we back in the mines" was also cool too.

Lazy spearheaded the entire project and organized it. If you play and beat the game, you can see exactly who did what levels. As far as I know the entire JUMP Team could have worked on that may be false.
On the soundtrack stream linked below it credits Lazy, Sinc-X and Lui with compiling the soundtrack. The music itself has been taken from several places, games, originally composed music, and actual pop songs. Super Mario World, like most SNES games only accepts the SPC format. SPC is a MIDI-like format that if you understand trackers and sequencers then you understand you can't just drop mp3s into SMW and expect it to work. Lazy, Sinc-X and Lui had to port and basically recompose to fit into the SPC format. This results in a completely different sound than the original. For example, "We Didn't Start the Fire" is present but is only played using the SMW soundfont. It's not as technical as I am making it out to be, but these are basically original compositions. A number of other tracks were taken from SMWCentral's music resources and composed by other people.

The soundfonts are all over the place. Some tracks use the SMW soundfont while other use Chrono Trigger's soundfont. It still all maintains the 16-bit SPC sound though. Even the pop songs manage to sound fresh. I want to say it almost gets vaporwavish. For example, track 99 could easily be a utopian virtual track. You also got way darker tracks like my favourite "Foreboding". It's a 16-bit remix of the song from 999. I've never played 999 but I had no idea it had that dark of a soundtrack.
There are two versions of this soundtrack. The first is from the YouTube link below. It is just the tracks composed and ported by Lazy, Sinc-X and Lui. That is the proper version. The second link contains all 105 tracks that appear in the game. It includes tracks not composed by the main three but pulled from other games, SMW's music resource, other composers, etc.

It was originally released in 105 SPC tracks. Using Foobar I have converted all of them, re-tagged and fixed all of them up. For the proper soundtrack the tracks are based off how they appear in the stream. For the other 105 tracks they are tagged how I felt fit. I won't be trudging through the entirety of YUMP2 to find out where each track appears. The second version is by far the longest soundtrack I have posted at four hours and almost thirty minutes. It's 105 tracks of nonstop 16-bit SPC action.
The cover for the proper version is above. The cover for the full version is below. The original SPC files have also been included in the full version.
